Audio Entropy Analysis

Animal vocalization • spectral and time-domain entropy

Audio playback is the master clock. The cursor is positioned from the Web Audio playback time, not a separate timer.

Entropy processing

Each result uses a window ending at its timestamp; only complete windows are used. Analysis is processed in small batches to keep the browser responsive.

XY cursor controls

3D entropy history · XY reticule / Z time

X = amplitude-histogram entropy (bits) · Y = FFT spectral entropy (bits) · Z = time (seconds). Gain/offset adjust the displayed X/Y coordinates.

3D orientation & time

Smooth false-color contour rug · time → / amplitude values ↑

Horizontal axis = audio time; vertical axis = audio sample amplitude, automatically scaled to the recording minimum and maximum. A smooth 2D false-color surface built from the 64-bin time-domain amplitude histograms (no FFT bins). Hue follows the entropy vector, scaled from measured minimum to maximum; brightness follows locally smoothed histogram occupancy. Black indicates no activity. White line = playback position.

Session notes

The X coordinate is Shannon entropy of a quantized amplitude histogram. The Y coordinate is spectral power entropy—not entropy of raw floating-point samples. These are exploratory signal features, not direct measurements of biological hair-cell activity.
